There is more on Cary Cox, Sr., here on this page.  Pat Goad White describes the Oconee National Forest resting place of Cary Cox, Sr., (the so-called Cox-Griggs Burying Ground) that we visited in 2003.  See this page for details and a photograph of his headstone.  Nearby to this cemetery is also an old house, still preserved that is known as the Cox-Mathis House, and was once the home of Cary Cox., Jr., and that is still in use by the Georgia Game & Wildlife Dept. as a Ranger Station.

In addition, she alludes to an interesting relationship (and one I'm most proud of) between Cary Cox, Sr., and Gen. John B. Gordon, a prominent CSA General officer in the War Between the States.  See the link for information on other CSA connections in my family.  Cary Cox., Sr., was Gen. Gordon's great-grandfather.  Because Gen. Gordon and my direct ancestor, Col. Willis Cox Holt were 2nd cousins (sharing a great-grandfather), that makes ME a 2nd cousin 5 times removed of the famous Gen. Gordon, so often mentioned in Civil War memoirs, etc.  Gen. Gordon in fact wrote a book about his memories of the Civil War, available here.
