***Henry
(Heinrich) Artieschowfsky (see note about spelling of name below) information
derived from a Modified Register Report of genealogy data donated by Andrew
Moehnke, Jr., a descendant of Henry. I have a great deal more info
on this family, but have truncated the family tree at just a few generations
for brevity's sake.
The Artieschoufskey (also spelled Artieschaufsky, Artieschowfsky, etc.) surname, is probably spelled phonetically as depicted here, and the Polish way is Arciszewski or something such as this. It was obviously misspelled a number of of different ways, making research on this particular name troublesome.Juliett Artieschowfskey had a brother that came to the US named Henry Artieschowfskey (his naturalization papers state Artischepki). It is believed that Juliett and Henry arrived together in 1885, possibly along with an 'uncle' (Mr. Tesmar, brother of Juliett's mother?)
Louis Haupt first arrived in the US in 1874 according to census data (1910 Runnels Co., TX), and Juliett is believed to have come to the US in 1885 (according to family lore and the fact that both her brother and her infant son, Rudolph list this as their year of immigration on the Runnels Co., TX census in 1920). Records indicate they may have come through the port at Indianola, Texas, but this is also not definite. In any event, it is believed that only their eldest child Rudolph was born in Germany, and all others were born in the US. Rudolph was born in 1884, and it is NOT clear whether Rudolph is a son of Louis, or of another man (since Louis was already in US by then?) Rudolph, nonetheless has Haupt as his surname, and perhaps Louis went back to Germany at some point after initial immigration to bring home a bride and child (?). They immigrated first to Texas and quickly moved first to Taylor, Texas in Williamson County, then on to Runnels County further West and North. Juliett and Louis Haupt are both buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Winters, Runnels Co., Texas, though not in the same plot.
Headstones of Juliett Artieschaufskey Haupt (1855-1914) and Husband Louis Haupt (1838-1911) in the Fairview Cemetery, Winters, Runnels Co., TexasClick for larger photos in new windows. Also, please see the Casey Photos Page 1 to illustrate the identical type of construction of Louis Haupt's headstone with those of J.H. and Margaret "Maggie" Fisher Casey, allowing one to conclude that both headstones were constructed by O.H. "Harris" Casey, son-in-law of Louis Haupt.
Kwidzyn, Poland, formerly Marienwerder, Prussia,
*Pronounced Kvee'-Jen

Thanks to my 1st cousin Michael Casey who researched this line long before I even thought about genealogy as a hobby. He has been instrumental in educating me about these family lines! Thanks Michael.
