I have come across two documents concerning Holts of Colonial Virginia.  I have links to them here.  These are my major sources for including Robert Holt and the 3 Richards as the 1st 4 generations in the above tree.

Whether these Holts are the ancestors of the above listed Holts starting with Simon Holt is not completely certain.  In essence these documents would attempt to trace the ancestry of Simon Holt back to Colonial Virginia and to Lancashire, England (to the purported Ancestor Immigrant, Robert Holt).
 
 

Biography of Col. Willis Cox Holt

***Willis Cox Holt (1838-1864) died at the Battle of Cedar Creek (a.k.a. The Battle of the Valley) in the Civil War.

For more info on this bit of history, click the link above.  He was an officer in the 10th Georgia Volunteer Infantry (Semmes Brigade, McLaw's Division, Longstreet's Corps).  He began as a Company Captain, and moved up ranks to Major, then Lt. Colonel, and then finally to full Colonel at the time of his death in battle.  He was Lt. Colonel of his regiment at Gettysburg, and was commended several times for gallantry in battle.  He is buried at the Massanutten Military Academy between Woodstock and Winchester, Virginia in an honorary grave for fallen CSA dead (see below.)  Also of note is that Gen. John B. Gordon of the CSA was Col. Holt's 2nd cousin (his Grandmother was a Cox) and thus any WC Holt descendants are also 'cousins' to Gen. Gordon, a famous figure in the Civil War.

  Susie Bird Bussey's sister **Lucy Bussey ("Aunt Lou") apparently was instrumental in raising many of the children of the family.  Louvale, Georgia (formerly Antioch) in Stewart County,is apparently named after Lou Bussey.  Aunt Lou was apparently wealthy and had enough money "to burn a wet mule"...

Most of this was from a genealogy research booklet derived from work done by Pat Goad White (wife of J.P. White.)  It is available for view online.  Click HERE for that information.  Some older material is also derived from the Woodland Shockley papers, and from other related sources, and other Holt links.

In addition, I traveled with my mother & father to Georgia in Oct. 2003, visiting Muscogee, Chattahoochee, Stewart, Talbot, Bibb, Baldwin, & Putnam Counties, as well as the Georgia Archives in Morrow, GA accumulating more data personally which I am continuing to compile into my database...as always this is a work 'in progress'.
